A Norwegian resource on the Noahide laws and the universal teachings of the Torah
An ancient covenant. A living tradition.
Welcome to Noahs 7 Lover, a Norwegian website exploring the Seven Laws of Noah and the universal teachings of the Hebrew Bible through Jewish tradition.
What does it mean to live responsibly before God? What do we owe one another? How can we build societies founded on justice?
These questions concern all of us. In Jewish tradition, the covenant with Noah provides a starting point: a covenant embracing humanity, rooted in our shared origin and our responsibility for life on earth.
What are the Seven Noahide Laws?
The Seven Noahide Laws, also called the Seven Noachide Laws, are seven broad categories of commandments understood in Jewish tradition to apply to all humanity:
- Do not worship idols.
- Do not blaspheme God.
- Do not murder.
- Do not engage in forbidden sexual relations.
- Do not steal.
- Do not eat flesh taken from a living animal.
- Establish courts of justice.
Each category opens into wider questions about faith, human dignity, family life, property, our treatment of animals, and the responsibilities of society.
The biblical foundation is the story of humanity before Sinai, including God’s covenant with Noah and his descendants in Genesis 9. The seven categories are explained and developed in rabbinic literature, notably in the Talmud, Sanhedrin 56a–60a.
A path open to humanity
You do not need to become Jewish to serve God and live a righteous life.
The Noahide tradition invites us to recognise God as Creator and to take responsibility for how we live. Its teachings concern everyday choices: how we treat other people, earn our living, honour our commitments, and contribute to justice.
This website explores these obligations through the Hebrew Bible, Jewish interpretation, and academic research. It also asks how these teachings can shape a meaningful life today.
About the author
My name is Ole Mads Sirks Vevle. I am a Norwegian scholar of religion and have identified as a Noahide since 2009.
I hold a master’s degree in Religious Studies from the University of Bergen, through the programme Religious Roots of Europe. My master’s thesis, Resident Proselytes, God-fearers and the Noahide Laws (2013), explored questions that remain central to this website.
My aim is to make this tradition accessible to Norwegian readers and to encourage informed study and conversation.
